The idea for a patient journal was inspired by conversations with our community of colon cancer patients, survivors, caregivers and professionals that revealed patients are underserved in the non-clinical aspects of their experience. In a perfect world, every patient would have a nurse navigator to whom they could access anytime with questions or to discuss medical or emotional matters - but they don’t. My CCC was created to help fill this gap.Read More
In 2014, with support from a generous sponsor, Colon Cancer Canada initiated focus groups with patients, caregivers, nurses, GIs, colorectal surgeons and other experts. These sessions confirmed major gaps in the resources available to colon cancer patients and their caregivers. With the intention of bridging the gap, CCC consulted with its national network of medical experts, patients, and caregivers, to develop My Colon Cancer Companion (My CCC), a comprehensive patient handbook designed to help afflicted Canadians and their families navigate every aspect of the colon cancer experience.
Divided into five sections – diagnosis, treatment planning, surgery, post-treatment and survivorship, My CCC is meant to guide patients and caregivers through every stage of their journey, providing the right information and support at the right time.
My CCC offers:
By providing a much-needed companion and guide that 'synchs up' with the patient journey in a timely and meaningful way, CCC hopes to make every Canadian’s experience with this devastating illness as smooth and positive as possible.
Less about rehashing or reinventing medical content (plenty of good information exists already), My CCC assumes the role of a compassionate companion. One that anticipates your questions, equips you with the knowledge to be your own advocate, offers relatable stories from people who’ve been there, and helps you navigate your patient experience (and the system) with confidence and courage.
Wherever the road ahead leads,
My CCC is designed to travel with you.
